WHAT IS AN AESTHETICIAN?

Aestheticians are licensed skincare professionals who provide skincare services and beauty treatments.

These treatments include facials, makeup applications, hair removal through electrolysis, or waxing.

Similar to cosmetologists, aestheticians usually receive training at a cosmetology school, a community or technical college.

Cosmetology schools offer aesthetician and skincare specialist certificate, diploma and 2-year degree programs.

A full-time program in aesthetician can take four months to two years and usually include an internship.

All states require aestheticians to be licensed before practicing.

Aestheticians who perform certain skin care techniques, such as electrolysis, may require an additional license, as do those who practice as medical aestheticians.

Medical aestheticians complete additional bacteriology, anatomy, physiology and other science courses as required by their state.

Medical aestheticians work in medical offices and hospitals and must complete additional training.

WHAT IS DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN AESTHETICIAN AND ESTHETICIAN?

Distinguishing between an aesthetician and an esthetician may seem tricky since both occupations are licensed skincare specialists.

However, it turns out, the only real difference between aesthetics and esthetics is the ‘a’ at the beginning of the spelling.

The word does have different meanings, but you can use either spelling once you have established what that meaning happens to be.

Aesthetics refers to a branch of philosophy that deals with the appreciation of beauty in art, nature and other areas.

According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, you can drop the ‘a’ for this application and it will mean the same thing.

Traditionally, aestheticians work in a medical setup like health centers, clinics, and hospitals, whereas estheticians typically work in spas and even salons or any other places where people to go relax or address beautification concerns.

An esthetician and aesthetician typically complete formal education in cosmetology or esthetician training.
