TYPES OF BRACES

There are three main types of orthodontic braces:

  • TRADITIONAL

Generally, traditional braces are metal braces metal but the traditional braces are also available in clear synthetic material and “tooth colored” ceramic.

  • INVISALIGN

Invisalign braces are aligners that are favored by many adults. Many adults prefer Invisalign because they are both removable and invisible to onlookers. Invisalign brace aligners are clear trays and their trays need to be worn for the recommended amount of time each day.

  • LINGUAL

Lingual braces are usually metal and fixed on the tongue side of the teeth.

The position of the braces enables the braces not to be seen when the patient smiles.

The cost of lingual braces is usually much higher than traditional braces or Invisalign.

The lingual braces can interfere with normal speech.

ADULT ORTHODONTICS

Orthodontics is not just for children and teens.

Today, an increasing number of adults are choosing to wear braces to straighten their teeth and correct bad bites.

In dental term, a bad bit is referred to as malocclusions (bad bites).

In fact, 1 in every 5 patients in orthodontic treatment is an adult.

Crooked or misaligned teeth look unsightly, which in many cases leads to poor self-esteem and a lack of self-confidence.

Aside from poor aesthetics, misaligned teeth can make it difficult to bite, chew and articulate clearly.

ADULT ORTHODONTIC BENEFITS

Adults find orthodontic work beneficial because:

  • Braces align the teeth to create a more aesthetic smile.
  • It will improve their dental hygiene. Crowded teeth or teeth that overlap will be easier to clean.
  • Orthodontics may give a person a more comfortable bite. Hence, a person is able to chew food correctly.
  • Orthodontics may make room for a missing tooth and closes space between teeth.
